Description
The charming Borgo Marina is a typical fishing village, a maze of alleys and seaside lanes. Today, it's also a tourist port , one of the largest marinas in the Mediterranean.
In this ancient fishing village, tradition and modernity meet in a magical way. Small fishing boats (gozzi) moor alongside luxurious yachts and state-of -the-art vessels. In the narrow alleys and along the waterfront of the Marina —as the locals call it—renowned cafes and restaurants offer delicious traditional dishes and good music.
Among the typical pastel-colored houses , you can still see traces of the ancient hospice of the Knights of Malta . Behind those Gothic portals, illustrious figures stayed, including Francesco Petrarca , in 1343.
Today, Borgo Marina is beloved by the residents of Imperia for its beautiful beaches of fine sand, where it's a pleasant place to spend relaxing and peaceful days in the summer. In winter, thanks to Italy's best climate, the wind, and favorable seas, it's the ideal place for surfing or simply sunbathing on the beach and sipping a good coffee.
Along the seafront and through the village's alleys, the aromas of traditional dishes waft; summer evenings are spent pleasantly in good company in the bars and restaurants.
Pizzerias, ice cream parlors, and bars make strolls along the harbor quay and Molo Lungo even more enjoyable. Here, you're right in the middle of the sea, allowing you to admire the entire city and be amazed by enchanting views at any time of day.
Right on the beach, around the characteristic Palazzina Liberty, the first weekend of April, the arrival of spring is celebrated, with Sole e Vento , which brings the world panorama of kite flying to Imperia, with hundreds of kites in the most extravagant shapes and colours that fly in the sky of the Marina.
Every September, in front of the Naval Museum, in Calata Anselmi, the Vele d'Epoca regatta takes place, a unique and evocative regatta : elegant historic vessels and ancient sailing ships compete in speed and beauty. It is one of the most important classic nautical gatherings, attracting thousands of enthusiasts to the clear waters of Porto Maurizio. During these days, Borgo Marina transforms into a sailing city, a social hub and the ideal place to sip an aperitif alongside sailors, sailors, captains, and crews from around the world.
