Description
Borgo Foce, which leads from Borgo Prino to Borgo Marina, passing along the lovers' walk, is affectionately called "la Foce" by the people of Imperia because it lies at the mouth of the Caramagna stream. Evocative as only Ligurian fishing villages can be, it was once a village steeped in maritime tradition. Its small harbor, named after the sailor Emanuele Aicardi, remains intact. Here, small fishing boats, the typical Ligurian "gozzi," are moored, capsized and pulled ashore in the winter.
The quaint old fishing village of Borgo Foce is one of the most charming in Porto Maurizio, Imperia's historic center along with Oneglia. Nestled at the foot of the Parasio promontory, it's the ideal place to spend romantic evenings strolling along the harbor to the nearby Lover's Walk , or enjoying traditional cuisine in the charming seaside eateries . During the day, you can swim or snorkel in the small emerald-green bay and explore its rich seabed, or simply relax in the sun on the pebble and rock beach.
The small, picturesque village, simply called " la Foce " by the people of Imperia, is located right at the mouth of the Caramagna stream, at the foot of the western slope of the splendid Parasio hill. This ancient, charming village was once inhabited by fishermen ; evidence of this tradition remains today in the small harbor for fishing boats, the characteristic fishing boats , moored or pulled ashore next to the nets, and the typically Ligurian stone and slate houses.
On days when the waves of the rough sea lash the shore, one can imagine the ancient boats waiting to dock off the small gulf. Even today, in winter, the storm surges almost touch the facades of the fishermen's houses , built close to the sea; for this reason, one can notice a greater inclination at the base, making the houses appear wider and more solid.
La Foce is where the residents of Imperia love to stroll peacefully, amidst the blue sea and the pastel red, pink, and yellow houses, continuing to Borgo Marina along the romantic Lovers' Walk . Or, sit at one of the pleasant outdoor seating areas of the many seaside restaurants. Here, you can savor traditional dishes or simply enjoy an aperitif or a fine glass of Pigato or Vermentino , typical local white wines, in a timeless atmosphere, scented with the salty air and aromatic herbs.
